Taking Part in Bath Art Exhibition, in aid of Children’s Hospice South West

A few months ago I came across an advert for the above exhibition, via Facebook. The call was for artists in the south west to submit work for selection - up to six pieces could be submitted. This exhibition was mainly going to be online, until the end of December 2020, with a percentage of sales made going to the hospice.

I thought joining this would be a great idea - it would help raise money for a vital local charity, which undoubtably would have had it’s hard work made harder by the current Covid situation. Also it would give me some great experience. Selling original artwork is a constant learning curve, and I’m always keen to develop my knowledge, any way that I can.

The exhibition was being organised by the Art Gallery SW, and featured a short promotional video by the actress, Jamie Lee Curtis, of ‘Halloween’ fame, which I thought was an interesting marketing angle.

Soon my six pieces of work were finished, submitted, accepted, spray-fixed and signed - I just had to get it photographed, ready to upload.

Before I started selling my artwork, which was fairly recent; fine art photography is something I knew nothing about. Cue another steep learning curve, mainly consisting of me trawling Amazon for the brightest lightbulbs I could get my hands on, constantly getting frustrated in Photoshop, and staring at multiple copies of the same image for hours on end. Eventually I was happy with the results for these pieces, although I think investing in some specialist camera and lighting equipment may be on the cards soon. Maybe a photography course as well. What did we all do before Youtube!

As an added bonus, I had a call from the organiser offering me wall space at a short pop-up exhibition as part of it, in a gallery space in Milsom Place in Bath. It was great to go there and meet the organisers, and see some of the other works on the set-up day. Definitely more great experience for me.

My pieces of work can be found for sale here, until the end of December 2020.

Big thanks to Robert at Art Gallery SW. They have lots of really beautiful work for sale, from a large variety of local artists.
